The Power of the Word

Poetry is my first language...it is the one that feels most true to my heart and is the dialect of my consciousness...

Mary Baker Eddy offers that:

" In no other one thing seemed Jesus of Nazareth more divine than in his faith in the immortality of his words. He said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away;" and they have not.  The winds of time sweep clean the centuries, but they can never bear into oblivion his words.  They still live, and tomorrow speak louder than today. " (MW 99:19)

Jesus knew the
power of his words
the authority of
the message
he
was being asked
to
deliver
from the bow of a boat
the belly of the temple
a hillside and
a
cross

confident that
behind
each word was
his God,
omnipotent, ready
to move mountains,
raise
the dead,
and
part the waves...still the storm
and
feed five thousand

do we
hesitate to
say "the word"
do we
wonder how it
will be received
whether the
hungry heart
is
really
hungry enough

or if the
parched throat
is sufficiently
dry to
appreciate
the
cup of cold water...the words...
we
know will
assuage its
thirst

are the words
His
or
ours

do we need to know
from
whence they came
or
whither they
go

do we need to
wonder if they
will
really make the
difference that
we
ourselves have
known... first hand

do we think their
power
is dependent on
how they are
received
or by
who

or when

they are immortal
give them
to the
people

Jesus did
so did Ghandi
so will
you
