Just reading your story caught me up in some very powerful, and very pleasant personal memories as I sat in my office looking at my family photo montage which includes photos of all four Beyer boys. It was so good to be reminded of all of Scott's good qualities and amazing gifts. I'm printing the blog and keeping it in my scrapbook. Thanks a million.

Cheers,

-Jeff SteeleAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14060533.post-1173378401314246052007-03-08T11:26:00.000-07:002007-03-08T11:26:00.000-07:00Dear Scott...you, your brother, the Beyer boys, Je...Dear Scott...you, your brother, the Beyer boys, Jeff, Duncan, Peter, Sandy, John, David, Dwight, ...and so many more young men of substance and impact...are a tribute to the very special camps that have helped you discover the servant-leaders you have become in this world...I am honored and proud to know many of you.

I sometimes wonder how many stories there are out there of what happens when young men and women come home from camp with a mission and a purpose...and make a difference in the lives of others.

I had heard about your brother...please let me extend my belated, but heartfelt, affections to your family.

If Susan is your sister I think we knew in Boston in the 80s.

with Love, KateKatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05929053604299123547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14060533.post-1173377215184836822007-03-08T11:06:00.000-07:002007-03-08T11:06:00.000-07:00Kate, thanks for this commentary from the heart ab...Kate, thanks for this commentary from the heart about Scott and his brothers (more Scott than his brothers, I know). He had a large influence in my life, although it was his oldest brother, Eric, who I was and still am close to (in fact, Eric was best man in both my weddings -- fortunately he knows that second time's forever and lessons have been learned and applied). Scott's passing parallelled my own brother's passing -- both at an untimely age took place in athletic activities they keenly enjoyed (my brother, Jeff, having been in a climbing accident in Alaska that destroyed his whole party). Eric and I were able to support each other, as both of us lost older brothers with whom we were very close and who we admired with all our hearts.
As with Scott, Jeff was also at the same summer camp, and interestingly both were team captains of the same team (my brother being team captain the year before Scott; I happened to be captain of that same team each of the following two years -- small world!). In the picture from Glenn Johnson that you included (and Glenn was captain of that same team the year before Jeff), my brother can be seen as well -- I think it was a picture from the Allagash canoeing trip.
Thanks again for the wonderful thoughts.
ScottAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14060533.post-1173309407105958492007-03-07T16:16:00.000-07:002007-03-07T16:16:00.000-07:00Kate, you are such a descriptive writer! I so try to let the stories speak for themselves rather than trying to interpret them for others...when I stay away from trying to define what they mean and neatly put them in the box of "resolution" the continue to teach me...this story is one that I have allowed to reform me today...and I'm feeling pretty happy to think that the opportunity to be a part of interesting discussions with fellow thinkers and continue to ask questions has taken the form of our blogging community...I think Scott would love it here.
love, KateKatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05929053604299123547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14060533.post-1173235898877970032007-03-06T19:51:00.000-07:002007-03-06T19:51:00.000-07:00katethis is so good...yours is one of the few long...kate

this is so good...yours is one of the few long-form blogs that I consistently read because you tell such great stories that are real, full of feeling, have meaning, are very well written, but don't take themselves too seriously.

Thanks for sharing these parts of your life with us!

MilesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
